How 30-year-olds spend their weekends

Unlike other house chores and projects I really dislike gardening. I think it’s the never-ending weeding, trimming, and mulching that it requires. Not to mention, we underestimated the power of Sophie’s pee on our new sod. There were dead spots EVERYWHERE in the back.

Ding Dong

Doorbells are boring. I re-wrote this post several times trying to insert some creativity or humor, but no dice. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. We upgraded our hardwired doorbell for this SadoTech CXR Wireless Doorbell from Amazon. Of course this was going to leave a hole in our wonderful new hallway. As you can see we…

Knock, Knock. Who’s there?

Last year we transformed the backyard and the year before that we built a new deck and had a deck dinner party and installed cement pavers. Now it’s time to spend some time talking about the front of the house! In 2014 we dug out some old roots, trimmed the bush in the front, removed some trees…

90% Update

Remember when I lamented on how the last 10% of a project is the hardest back in November 2014? That was easily over a year ago now and I thought I’d strengthen my argument by sharing how few of those items we’ve completed. Basement: Black cabinet piece on top cabinets Basement: Decor Done, as of…

They could probably stand another trim next year and then hopefully they’ll produce more blooms. 🙂 The rest of the backyard…

Picky or Smart?

When planning out the backyard we designed in a potty area for Sophie so that she didn’t kill all the new sod in the back. We had the landscapers fill in the large rectangular area on the right side of our garage with woodchips. Before: And after: We even purchased and installed this fancy dog door in…

We should hire out everything

Wow, was it nice to hire out our backyard or what!? Despite some rain delays, I LOVED having someone else do the heavy lifting and clean-up! Maybe our little project will help inspire our neighbors to do the same… I’ve since cut down all the dead flowers and grass, here’s hoping they come back next…

One dumpster later

Hello dirt! Most of the work took place while we were both traveling for work. Nolan’s dad was over house/dog-sitting and would frequently send us photos. (Thanks Glen!) We kept the two flower bed areas from the original landscape job that Nolan’s parents did. I figure that even I can keep up with a small…
