It’s official, the 2020 Ironman Ohio 70.3 is cancelled. I’m honestly more relieved that I am bummed out. This is week 14 of a 20 week training plan. I was not confident that I could get the swim speed and endurance in just 6 weeks. We were given a few alternate races later this year, or a deferment to 2021. I took the latter. So what am I doing now?
2020 Mojo Olympic Triathlon | August 16th
Originally scheduled for June 21st, the Mojo Triathlon has been rescheduled for August 16th. The race was suppose to be our practice for Ohio 70.3. I’m now hoping it doesn’t get rescheduled again or canceled. It gives me a goal to work toward. I’m signed up for the Olympic Triathlon- 1500m Swim – 40k Bike – 10k Run. 9 weeks to train for a 1500m swim sounds way more doable than 6 weeks and 1.2 miles (1930m).
2020 Run The Bluegrass Half Marathon | October 3rd
Run the Bluegrass has also been rescheduled from March to October 3rd. This was suppose to be a fun half marathon leading up to the Flying Pig race. It’s a rolling hills race in Kentucky- near bourbon distilleries and horse farms. No PRs, but beautiful scenery and yummy post-race drinks. I registered with a bunch of people from my running group. Now, I’m hoping it’ll be a fun half marathon leading up to the Marine Corps Marathon!
2020 Flying Pig / Queen Bee Weekend | October 11th
Back in May I opted to do the virtual Flying Pig Half Marathon. The Flying Pig was rescheduled for October 11th, the same weekend as the Queen Bee races. I’m not signed up for anything, but if the race happens I know I’ll participate somehow. If the MCM is still a go that would be 2 weeks out- making it a perfect week for a half marathon.
2020 Marine Corps Marathon | October 25th
I registered for the 2020 Marine Corps Marathon on October 25th. They’ve already given a reduced rate deferment offer to all registered runners. While I’m not holding out hope the race will go on, I will not do this one virtually. 1-I don’t think I want to do any marathon virtually. 2-I’ve never been to DC! The whole point of this marathon is to see the city a little bit!
Of all the races above, this is the one I really hope doesn’t get cancelled. I have heard so many great things about this race and I’m excited to train for a marathon again! If it gets postponed till next year, I won’t be able to enter the Chicago lottery. Following an 18-week plan starts on June 21st!
2020 Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas 5k | ???
Last, but not least. Nolan and I registered for the 2020 Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas 5k after I ran the 1/2 last year. It was scheduled for November 14th and has been postponed. No word on deferment to 2021 or a virtual option.
