A few weeks ago we spent 1 night is Salem, MA. I grabbed this photo from a short 2-mile run I did in the morning. Here’s a brief recap and our recommendations if you only have one day in Witch City.

What to Do in Salem

Walk around the city! Salem was extremely walkable and there are tons of shops, restaurants and sites to see. I loved the old cobblestone streets and architecture. For lunch we ate lunch at Bambolina – I would highly recommend! We also tried NOTCH brewery and took the awesome photo above. 😛

You can’t go to Salem and not check out some Witch things! We toured the Witch History Museum. The Museum was somewhat underwhelming, but the history lesson was interesting. It’s very sad how so many, IMO, innocent people were hanged for being accused of being a witch. What nonsense!

We also did a haunted ghost tour at night. Again, the witch/ghost thing is not something I believe in, but the historical parts were very interesting. We went by lots of homes, a graveyard, churches and the jail that many of the “witches” were held.

Where to Stay for 1 Night in Salem

Since the city is very walkable, I suggest staying close to the “downtown”. We stayed at an Airbnb in the The Point neighborhood. After parking the car, we didn’t use it again until leaving Salem. I felt really safe running around the neighborhood and down to the Forest River Park.

Before leaving, we popped into Brew Box for some very good coffee. There are several other eateries, parks and points of interest in Salem, but we made due with the 1 day we had. Onward to Portland, ME!
