2023 South Caroline Beer Mile Championship was Saturday, November 4th at Commonhouse Aleworks. I don’t even really like beer and haven’t been drinking much lately, but I couldn’t pass this up! I’ve always been impressed/disgusted with the beer mile. Nolan and I watched a competition once in Cincinnati and we were amazed at some people’s stomach strength.

2023 South Caroline Beer Mile Championship Rules

The Beer Mile consists of consumption of one beer, run one quarter mile, and repeat 3 times. Totaling 4 beers and 1 mile. Penalties and given for throwing up before finishing, and for leaving more than 4 ounces of beer in the can.

The fastest person to do this is 4:30.80. For the entire thing! Check it out below. Yes, 4 and a half minutes to drink 4 beers and run a mile. Insane.

Relay Team

When I saw they had a relay option I was sold. I hadn’t really been drink much lately and I ran 12 miles that morning. But I figured I could drink 1 beer and run 1/4 mile! Our team was Jessica, Nolan, Graham and me (in that order). The start/finish was in the alley behind Commonhouse – with lots of garbage cans for you-know-what. Jessica and Graham crushed their beers, but Nolan took the cake with a 7-second chug. Even though Graham was injured, he sped back to the start/finish line to tag me in.

The pressure was on for me! It took me a bit longer to finish mine and then I ran my butt off. That was the hardest 1/4 mile I’ve ever run. I don’t know how some people did that 4x. That said, I’d totally do a relay again next year. 😉

We finished in 8:17 with no penalty laps! While this doesn’t help my 50 states goal, I do think it deserves some kudos. 🙂
