I used to suffer through books that I wasn’t enjoying because I hated quitting. Now, I quit because there are too many good books out there to waste time on books you aren’t enjoying or getting any benefit from. Here are two books from my 2018 book list that I wanted to like, but found they fell short, so I quit reading.

The Opposite of Loneliness

I’ve seen a few people rave about The Opposite of Loneliness and it has 4.3/5 stars on Amazon. Based on the title I thought it would be somewhat uplifting. Nope, it was just a bunch of depressing short stories. I listened to a few chapters of the audiobook and promptly “returned” it to the library.

Theft By Finding Diaries 1977-2002

I can’t remember where I first heard about Theft by Finding Diaries 1977-2002, but I knew it was (supposed to be) funny. I guess I just have a different sense of humor. To me, it was an unpleasant book and I quit before the halfway mark. That said, many of the reviews felt the same but still rave about his other books.

There will likely be other books from my 2018 book list that I attempt and quit. Life is too short to force yourself to finish a book you don’t like. (Unless, of course, it’s a textbook you have to read for school. Just in case there are any youngsters out there reading this: you can’t run to your parents and say life is too short to force you to read fill-in-the-blank textbook.)

Has anyone else read these two books? Do you agree/disagree?
