I’ve been getting more in the rhythm of reading at night before going to bed. Like most of the population, I too get too much screen time and find it hard to sleep if I stare at a tiny lit screen before going to bed. My favorite in the last few reads is Burn It All Down by Nicolas DiDomizio.
Burn It All Down by Nicolas DiDomizio
Burn It All Down was a delightful little 3-day read about a mother-son duo that go on a rampage after finding out both of their significant others had cheated on them. I read the first half while sitting at the pool and the second half within a few days. Very cute. Very distracting. Great easy breezy summer read.
All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank {Audiobook}
All Summer Long didn’t “get good” until about chapter 13, when the plot line finally became somewhat clear. That said, it’s another good summer read without anything too risqué. It was a great book to listen to in the car after a long day of work, or a late night of playing volleyball. No deep thoughts, just imagining the expensive yacht trips that the characters were on.
Dishing the Dirt by M. C. Beaton
Dishing the Dirt is the first Agatha Raisin mystery I’ve read and it honestly might be the last. The book was ok. Fine. I grabbed it off the “library staff recommended” bookshelf at the library. This is the first time I disagree. For a mystery it just lacked a little ump, a little pizzaz, a little grip. It wasn’t a page turner, but turn all the pages I did.
Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala
Arsenic and Adobo was a cute little mystery that I read mostly on a plane to Minnesota for a family weekend. It was 10x better than Dishing the Dirt, but not a 10/10 situation. More like 8/10. It was released this year so all of the cultural references were on point. I also liked the food details! If it wasn’t overdue to the library I would have made one of the recipes in the back of the book.
I’ll get on ‘burn it all down’. I loved your last recommendation, ‘nothing to see here’. I’m sensing a theme ?????.
