How 30-year-olds spend their weekends

Unlike other house chores and projects I really dislike gardening. I think it’s the never-ending weeding, trimming, and mulching that it requires. Not to mention, we underestimated the power of Sophie’s pee on our new sod. There were dead spots EVERYWHERE in the back.

Ding Dong

Doorbells are boring. I re-wrote this post several times trying to insert some creativity or humor, but no dice. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. We upgraded our hardwired doorbell for this SadoTech CXR Wireless Doorbell from Amazon. Of course this was going to leave a hole in our wonderful new hallway. As you can see we…

Gallery Wall 2.0

In my Currently: April 2016 post I mentioned we were working on the gallery wall. When we installed the board and batten in the hallway we replaced the trim on the gallery wall, which required us to remove a strip of the wallpaper. It wasn’t hurting anyone but super annoying. So, instead of finishing the…

Knock, Knock. Who’s there?

Last year we transformed the backyard and the year before that we built a new deck and had a deck dinner party and installed cement pavers. Now it’s time to spend some time talking about the front of the house! In 2014 we dug out some old roots, trimmed the bush in the front, removed some trees…

Finding a Stylish Man Chair

For Nolan’s birthday this year we’re upgrading our Ikea chair to a real man chair. He wants it to have some give (a recliner but not a rocking chair) and a high back. I want it to look good. Do you think we can find that in our price range? Restoration Hardware Churchill This cushy…

What the hek?

That’s what Nolan said when I returned with a Hektar pendant light from Ikea. When I went I told myself I only needed two things; frames for the basement and maybe a fiddle fig if they had one. I left with only two items, but it was the frames and the hek for above the…

90% Update

Remember when I lamented on how the last 10% of a project is the hardest back in November 2014? That was easily over a year ago now and I thought I’d strengthen my argument by sharing how few of those items we’ve completed. Basement: Black cabinet piece on top cabinets Basement: Decor Done, as of…

Basement Art

In addition to the gallery wall of beer signs, I finally did some decorating in the basement! I’ve been a longtime follower of the Jenna Sue Design Blog and knew I wanted to incorporate her prints. So when Nolan asked for Christmas ideas I jumped at the opportunity to score some Minnesota city maps. I…

Say it, don’t spray it

I mentioned last week that, along with the food processor, I managed to break the faucet. A new faucet wasn’t even on the radar but unless you like to be sprayed in the stomach each time you use the sink, it quickly went on the radar. After finishing the hallway, I’m on a bit of an…
