With St. Patrick’s Day on a Friday this year, the 2023 Catch the Leprechaun 5K was on Friday night at 6pm. Not the ideal time to race but considering this was just a 5K, it was doable.
The Race
We suited up in all things green! The temperatures were the opposite from the last time I wore my “Irish I Was Faster” shirt. A few friends from our Fleet Feet group ran too. The race was in North Mount Pleasant. The route was an out-and-back with half the road marked off. There was plenty of police and volunteers helping with traffic.
These tough guys had great races! Nolan placed second in his age category! Not a PR for him, but still fun to place. My time was 31:25, I kept saying we could take it easy because we had a 6-mile training route the following day, but races have a sneaky way of making you go faster.
The Swag & After Party
I wore my St. Patrick’s Day earrings from The Playful Pumpkin. They are super lightweight and didn’t prove a problem until the last 1/2 mile or so when the wind reared its ugly head. Either way, it was fun to be a bit festive.
Instead of medals they handed out mugs and beer, which I was happy about! I’d much rather get a mug, hat, gloves, etc than a medal for a 5K. We also got a soft t-shirt. Overall, not a bad race or a way to spend St. Patrick’s Day! Cheers~
