Exploring Montmartre and Dinner at Le Poulbot

After touring the Sacré-Cœr, we walked around Montmartre before having dinner there. Montmartre is Paris’ 18th arrondissement, you can read more about the history on Wikipedia. It is worth noting that during the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century many artists worked in and around Montmartre. Their presence is still felt throughout the art filled streets.

Not far away there was a block full of (what I can assume were) local artists selling their paintings. In the middle of the block were several restaurants.

There was also a small vineyard! Unlike most of Paris, Montmartre is pretty hilly. So, by the time the tour was done we were exhausted, thirsty, and hungry.

Dinner at Le Poulbot

American Concierge changed our reservations to Le Poulbot because the original place didn’t have air conditioning. I’m so grateful! I snapped this picture of the outside right when we left. I don’t know how those people were eating outside when it was 90+ degrees out.

The menu was in French, but between my French and the waiter’s English we made it work. We opted for a bottle of white wine and the three course menu. First up, I had snails, which were de-shelled and mixed with what reminded me of spinach dip, topped with more spinach. Nolan had the goose with spinach salad.

For the main course, Nolan had duck with salad and french fries. (We noticed that it wasn’t always stated on the menu, but most meals came with fries.) I had ceviche with veggies, quinoa, and salad. The ceviche wasn’t what you’d typically get in America. It was still cold, but in a creamy mixture. Still good, just not what I was expecting.

For dessert Nolan tried the creme brûlée, which became his signature dessert while in France. I had a honey panna cotta. Everything was delicious! It stands as the 3rd best meal we had while in France.

We ended the night with an evening driving tour through Paris, including a quick stop in front of the Eiffel Tower. I like this picture because it’s far back enough that you can’t see the bags under our eyes. 😉 We drove by all the other major monuments; Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Notre-Dame, the Invalides, the Pantheon, the Champs-Élysées, the Place Vendôme, Luxor Obelisk, and Place des Vosges.
