I signed Nolan and I up for the Cincinnati Beer 5K a few months back. Between then and the day of the race, Nolan hurt his toe, again, and had to take a few weeks off running. Then we went to Paris and it was still bothering him. So, when race day came he opted to participate in a supportive role.

It ended up working out great actually. We got our packets right before the race and then he held on to all the swag while I ran. Since it was a 5K I knew he wouldn’t be waiting much longer than 30 minutes for me to finish.

Unlike the last few races, this one was on my initial 2019 race list. The line-up of breweries that were participating was one of the reasons we signed up. These included our favorites and some we hadn’t yet tried.

3 Points Urban Brewery
Braxton Brewing Company
Brink Brewing Company
Christian Moerlein Brewing Company
Fifty West Brewing Company
Listermann Brewing Company
MadTree Brewing
Rhinegeist
Rivertown Brewing
Streetside Brewery
Taft’s Brewing Company
Urban Artifact

Cincinnati Beer 5K Route

The route started and finished at Sawyer Point Park. Like many races in Cincinnati, it dipped across the river into Kentucky for a hot second. Crossing the Purple People Bridge was the hardest part. It was at the end of the race and there was no shade.

I basically pounded the Rhinegeist Cheetah immediately after the race. (Glad to wear my beer socks, that I haven’t worn since the Hudy 14K.) They had tiny tiny cups of water but no water bottles?! Weird for any 5K, but especially one held on a 93-degree day.

Our registration included a skyline (neither of us ate) and a pretzel with dip. The pretzel tasted wonderful! My favorite beer was a sour from 3 Points Urban Brewery. Even though Nolan didn’t run, he didn’t waste his sampling tickets. His favorite an apricot beer from Urban Artifact.

Future Races

The next race, that I’m signed up for is Michigan Ragnar at the end of September. I had been considering the Minnesota Ragnar, but ultimately couldn’t make it work. After I signed up I realized it was the weekend before Twin Cities Marathon, which I had on my fall marathon short list.

So, I think I’ll end up doing Marshall University Marathon. It’s the full marathon that our group will be targeting. It’s a smaller marathon in Huntington, West Virginia. I’ve heard the swag is pretty good and it’s within driving distance. The only thing I’m not so keen on is the fact that the marathon is two loops.
