I like to pretend I’m as cool and funny as Bev with her imaginary book club.
BR: A Time to Kill, Gingerbread, Say Again, Yes!, and The Testaments
During February I read four books, well three books and one audiobook. I read my first and definatley not last John Grisham book, a very odd novel that I still don’t quite understand, a gripping story about two neighbors, and the intense sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
BR: Sometimes I Lie, Disappearing Earth, My Lovely Wife, I Owe You One, and Mrs. Everything
Instead of writing a post after each book, I thought I’d simply write a shorter recap at the end of each month. My long 2020 list puts me at about ~2 books/month and I’m already behind. Sophie is very disappointed.
My 2019 Book Recap
Looking at my 2019 book recap, I feel I did a pretty good job getting through my 2019 book list! Between reading books and listening to audiobooks I made through a lot!
BR: Trust Exercise by Susan Choi
Trust Exercise by Susan Choi just won the 2019 National Book Award for Fiction. So, naturally, I added it to my library queue. To my surprise, it was almost immediately filled. It’s not a super long book so I brought it with me on my recent trip back to Minnesota for Christmas.
BR: Empress Josephine Book by Ernest John Knapton
I stumbled upon this Empress Josephine Book while in an old bookstore in Paris. I read some of it while we had an afternoon glass of rosé. When we got home I checked it out from the library.
BR: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
I recently finished Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I started the audiobook on our way to Paris, which kept me from sleeping on the plane! But, I wasn’t able to finish the audiobook before it was due. So, I waited several weeks in a huge queue with the library to get the hardcover.…
BR: The Good Immigrant by Shukla and Suleyman
The Good Immigrant, from my 2019 book list, is one of the fastest books I’ve read in a long time! Edited by Nikesh Shukla and Chimney Suleyman, it’s a great collection of 26 essays. I started it one night, in bed, with a glass of wine (don’t judge). Then, I processed to read at least…
BR: Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win by Jo Piazza
Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win by Jo Piazza is the latest book I’ve read from my 2019 book list. I read several chapters on our 12+ drive back to Minnesota a few weeks ago.
BR: This One is Mine by Maria Semple
This One is Mine is the third book that I’ve read by Maria Semple. I first listened to the audiobook of Where’d You Go Bernadette and then Today Will Be Different. I loved both of these, so when I found this book it was a no brainer to put it on my 2019 book list.
