Basement – During

Nolan estimated that we spent over 30 hours getting all the wallpaper down, see the before and during here and here.

On the large areas a wallpaper steamer worked best and in the areas that the steamer couldn’t reach I used WP Chomp Wallpaper Stripper. I’d spray it on, sort of mop the liquid around with a paper towel, let it sit for 5 minutes and then scrap it off. If you let it sit long enough it would come off pretty easy, but I near the end I had zero patience and made some large gashes in the wall. Speaking of gashes, do you remember these shelves?

Nice huh? Removing them was, let’s say, a challenge, so this happened:

We literally had to rip some of them off the wall. Sorry for the bright light, this is the best photo I have from this stage. We also had some electrical work done to rewire some outlets to fit with our bar design.

For the trim we did 2 coats of an oil-based primer and then 2 or 3 of paint. Since the walls were going to be painted and the floor was going we didn’t bother to tape that much. We did put masking tape on the carpet around the trim so that no carpet hairs got stuck in the paint. Overall that technique worked really well and didn’t damage the carpet.
