From my Cincinnati book list, Calling Me Home, is a book I requested from the library while I was waiting for others to come in. It is a predictable, but touching story about an unlikely friendship between two women and their journey to Cincinnati.

Amazon Description: Calling Me Home

In Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler, eighty-nine-year-old Isabelle McAllister has a favor to ask her hairdresser Dorrie Curtis. It’s a big one. Isabelle wants Dorrie, a black single mom in her thirties, to drop everything to drive Isabelle from her home in Arlington, Texas, to a funeral in Cincinnati. With no clear explanation why. Tomorrow.

My Review

Calling Me Home is a sweet story about unlikely friendships, young love and an important road trip. I admittedly didn’t know what it was about other than it was based in Cincinnati. It is a cute book, but I see why it’s not on any must-read lists. I really liked how each chapter alternated time periods, but didn’t make it impossible to follow along. If it was a movie it would definitely be a chick flick. I’d watch it and even though I’d guess how it ended, I’d still probably cry a little.
