I haven’t written a blog post in fore-ev-er! {name that movie} I’ve missed it! But I honestly haven’t had much to chat (write) about lately. Which, I guess is a good thing, all things considered. So, now that I’ve flipped through enough pages, I can at least write about a few books I read/listened to, so here goes. Would recommend!
The Unwinding of the Miracle by Julie Yip-Williams
Akin to When Breath Becomes Air, which I read back in 2016 and loved, The Unwinding of the Miracle: A Memoir of Life, Death, and Everything That Comes After is written by Julie as she is facing death. It’s sad, touching, funny, and insightful. The parts about her daughters are especially sad. I did appreciate that her husband wrote the last two chapters about how her life untimely came to an end. Good read if you’re looking to shed some tears.
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
I found Then She Was Gone in a Tiny Library in my neighborhood. I had just returned The Unwinding of the Miracle and didn’t have any new library books to pick up. It was a good, very easy, thriller to zip through in a few days. It gets a bit farfetched at the end, but what thriller doesn’t? Totally predictable, totally binge-worthy.
The Guest List by Lucy Foley {audiobook}
The Guest List is another thrilling novel. I listened to the audiobook version and loved it! It might have been even better if reading it, but I did enjoy the different voices/accents in the audiobook version. It wasn’t as farfetched or predictable as Then She Was Gone.
Eleanor and Hick by Susan Quinn {audiobook}
At least I can check one book of my 2020 book list! Eleanor and Hick The Love Affair That Shaped a First Lady was a very long and intriguing book! Who knew that Eleanor Roosevelt was a lesbian!?! It might have been too long and mundane for me to read through, but listening to the audiobook while I was driving, on my trainer and even doing some weight lifting in the basement was very enjoyable. If you’re into historical non-fiction, this is a good one!
