Breakfast at Angelina’s and Exploring The Louvre

On our second full day in France we had breakfast at Angelina’s, toured the Louvre, did a French food tour, and then watched the USA vs. France Women’s World Cup game.

Angelina’s Hot Chocolate

After a long first day, we slept like babies and woke up early to have some breakfast and the famous hot chocolate at Angelina’s. We heard how rich it is, so we ordered one and one cup of coffee, plus some sweets and a glass of champagne, because YOLO. The hot chocolate was like drinking a melted milk chocolate bar. Very yummy, but I’m glad we shared one.

The Louvre

The Louvre has some 12 miles of galleries and it’s said that if you looked at each piece of art for 1 minute it would take you 4 months to get through the entire museum. We were there for about 3 hours. The tour started in the basement, where we saw the original walls of the mote. The stone masons marked every stone because that’s how they got paid.

Also in the basement was this giant sphinx that was brought in from Egypt. It proved to be too heavy to get upstairs so it lives in the basement. The interesting thing is that when a new leader took over they scratched off the old leader’s name and inscribed their own.

We stopped at several of the other major works of art there. Including the famous paintings- like the Mona Lisa, Liberty Leading the People, Saint John the Baptist, The Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon and the Coronation of Empress Josephine, and The Raft of Medusa. And the famous sculptures- Venus de Milo and The Winged Victory of Samothrace.

In addition to the art, we checked out Napoleon’s Apartment. As always, the pictures don’t do it justice. Seeing all the extravagance of the Kings and royalty it’s easy to see why there was a French Revolution.

Paris Walking Food Tour

We started our Paris food tour with a glass of rosé and a lesson on baguettes. This was another really hot day in Paris, so we were happy to sit at a cafe for awhile.

The tour itself didn’t require a ton of walking, but covered a lot of food! We tried cheeses, checked out a typical veggie stand, sampled and bought some foie gras, and visited a spice store. A food tour wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the chocolate shop! I was having so much fun trying the different chocolates I forgot to snap a photo.

Watching the World Cup

We found a tiny bar with TVs to catch the US vs. France Women’s World Cup. We were the only American’s there, so when they won we quietly celebrated. We ended up watching three of the World Cups games at this bar. The waiter remembered us and brought us our repeat orders without us having to ask. 🙂
