The 2021 Honor Run was chilly and windy, but we avoided the rain and snow! My friend Heidi was in town from Minnesota and she claimed to bring the cold weather. Here is my full race recap and and update on my goal of running a half (or full) in every state!
The Race
The Honor Run was created to honor all those that have served. All the proceeds from the race go to Honor Flight Tri State to help send our local Veterans who have served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington DC for the day to see the memorials that they have earned. I dedicated my race to my father-in-law who served our country in Vietnam. Both my grandpas were veterans as well. So, when I felt like quitting I just said repeated Grandpa Wayne, Grandpa Marv, FIL Glen to remind myself why I was out there.
The Route
The route started and ended under the Florence Y’all water tower. It was not scenic at all with very few spectators. There were rolling hills throughout and a very steep climb around mile 11. There were three out & backs, which I enjoyed because I got to cheer on my friends three times. 🙂
I didn’t even know my friend Jeff was running it. What a nice surprise to see someone you know! I swear that Florence has every single chain and that this run goes by them all. At one point I smelled some yummy bacon- probably from Bob Evans or Crackle Barrel.
The Swag
The 2021 Honor Run shirt is pretty good for the small race. They had women’s and men’s styles and we were able to exchange to get the right size. Unfortunately, there were no medals at the end because of supply chain issues. But as soon as they are in we’ll be able to pick them up. Of course there was Skyline at the end, which we devoured while trying to stay warm in the car.
