If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) around the Flying Pig Marathon series. So, even though I just ran the Nashville Marathon the previous weekend, I ran the Flying Pig 10K on Saturday.
I picked up my packet on Friday, the expo was huge! It was a little difficult to navigate with packet pick-up at one end and the t-shirts and poster at the other. While Glen waited in line to buy my over-priced Flying Pig shirt, I went to the other end for my race t-shirt.
Flying Pig 10K
Saturday morning was thee perfect running weather! It was in the low 50s and overcast almost the entire time. The route was a little hilly, but very manageable. I saw some areas of Newport and Cincinnati that I’ve never seen before. There was lots of support along the route and the people cheering us on were amazing.
I took my own advice and skipped the headphones this time. I love listening to music, books on tape and Aaptiv when I’m training, but not on race day. Hearing all the cheering and being able to easily chat with other runners was great!
I knew my first mile was really slow, but I was ok with that. I managed to pick up the pace and achieve negative splits!
Not sure if it was the cheering, the weather or the fact that it was only a 10K, but I had a great run! I started slow, drank at every water stop, and didn’t walk up any hills. I sprinted through the finish line with a huge smile on my face.
Flying Pig Marathon
On Sunday we watched and cheered on the marathoners. I ran for a bit with two of my volleyball friends and gave them a bit of encouragement. You have to be a little crazy to run a marathon and crazy loves company. Am I crazy for thinking about running the full pig next year?
