September ended up being a pretty good mileage month for me! I hit all my mileage goals, including a 5K race. Instead of doing October mileage goals, I’m doing the Last90Days Challenge.

September Mileage

My goals in September were to bike 40 miles and run 20 miles. I ended up biking 47 miles (rounding up) and running 21.8 miles! I’m not sure what happened the week of September 3rd…

The 3.21 miles on September 30rd was the (supposedly 5K) Warrior Run, supporting mental health education and suicide prevention. Someone close to me battles mental health issues, so it’s a topic close to my heart. I hate that there is such a stigma around it, when it should be treated and seen as any other health issue.

MapMyRun said I ran 3.21 in 30:50 with an average pace of 9:36min/mile, while the official race results for the 5K (~3.1miles) were 30:09, with an average pace of 9:43min/mile. But who’s counting? I’m just happy to have run it under 10min/mile.

Last90Days Challenge

Instead of stating October mileage goals, I’m doing the Last90Days Challenge. It’s a commitment to do a few things everyday for the last 90 days of 2017. It’s sort of like the opposite of a New Year’s Resolution. (How many people have stuck with their 2017 New Year’s Resolutions?) The tagline is that it takes 21 days to create a habit and 90 days to change your life. Confession: I’m not following it 100%. The one challenge I’m following is exercising 30 minutes everyday.

Now, some people might roll their eyes at this sort of digital community, but I’m a firm believer in doing whatever motivates you. So, if it’s an online group to hold you accountable, buying a new outfit, or writing your goals in a blog, do what you need to do to better yourself!
