Last weekend was the 2022 Las Vegas 5k! After the last three races I was registered for got cancelled, I was nervous about this one. (Rocket City Half Marathon, Charleston Half Marathon, Cyclones Frozen 10k)
2022 Las Vegas 5k
I loved the Las Vegas half marathon I did back in 2019. Soon after that race I convinced Nolan to run the 5k in 2020. Then COVID. Then scheduling changes. It didn’t bother us too much, we like going to Vegas during COVID, in December, at fancy hotels, to golf or to celebrate friend’s birthdays! Not to mention it was rescheduled over our anniversary weekend.
The Expo & Swag
We did packet pick up at the new Resort World after landing Saturday morning. The expo was the typical Rock ‘n’ Roll type expo with lots of purchasing opportunities and tons of vendors. We skipped through it pretty quick. I need another piece of running apparel like a hole in the head!
The Course
The race itself was on Saturday night at 5pm, in downtown Vegas, finishing on the infamous Fremont Street. In previous years it’s been a few blocks off the strip and didn’t get high reviews. I liked this route though, the out-and-backs allowed you to see and cheer on other runners.
The Organization
I already mentioned how the race got rescheduled so many times. That said, they did provide lots of communication around. I’m 99% sure they would not have provided a refund and I can see how that could be upsetting to some. My friend also tried to transfer from the half to the 5k without much customer service.
The Race
My friends Amy and Heidi met and ran the 5k with Nolan and me. It was super sunny at the starting line. Believe it or not, this was the best photo we could get. We all had a great time and finished smiling. Instead of my usual “GO EM” on my bib I somehow ended up with WHIVSIV… who knows what I was thinking when I typed that into the registration 3 years ago!
Overall, it’s a fun race and a great excuse to visit Vegas. 🙂
