Each month I write a currently post to share all sorts of little tidbits that alone probably don’t constitute an entire post, but are worth sharing nonetheless…

I’m sharing some current favorites, including the above caprese salad yoga mat, as well as the books I read, the shows I watch and things that are annoying me.

Currently Reading

The day after I posted my 2017 Book List I got the email that Modern Lovers by Emma Straub was on hold for me at the library.  It started off pretty slow, but picked up the pace maybe 100 pages in. I continually mixed up the father and son because the father’s name is Andrew and the son’s name is Harry. Throw the two of them together and I’d want Harry to be the dad and Andrew to be the son. Besides that, I loved the ending- no questions, no wondering what eventually happened to any of the characters. I liked the closure.

I read The Late, Lamented Molly Marx on my recent vacation in Miami. Molly’s death is quite suspicious and while she looks on from the afterlife as the investigators try to find answers. It was the perfect plane and pool read.
I randomly grabbed The Whole Enchilada by Diane Mott Davidson audio book because I love enchiladas. It’s a murder mystery involving popular caterer Goldy Schulz. It was sort of cheesy (pun intended), but easy to listen to and very entertaining. Similar to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, there are several more books chronicling Goldy’s mysteries. My only complaint is that during one of my hour+ computes during the snow, her mouth-watering descriptions of dishes made my stomach growl.

I requested the audio book of Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple because she also wrote Where’d You Go, Bernadette, which I listened to via audio book and I loved. Unlike other audio books this one was only 10 discs, so I went through it much faster. I was sad when it was over, Eleanor’s preoccupations were hilarious! My favorite was the stories she concocts to explain her husband’s secrets. I can’t wait for Semple’s next book and I really hope that Kathleen White narrates the audio book!

Another book from my 2017 listThe Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead is the story of Cora and Caesar, two slaves that use the Underground Railroad to escape their Georgian plantations. It’s received multiple awards and is on Oprah’s book list. I read it in about a week, but it wasn’t as captivating as I had hoped.

Currently Loving

I saw someone using a dat mat on instagram, I also like the caprese salad, and the pizza mats. Also, the fat cat mat- mostly because it rhymes.

Upon organizing some stuff in the basement we found our long lost wii games. I’m happy to say that after a couple hours of reacquainting myself, I’m back at pro level bowling and tennis. I even created Lucy, my left-handed mii, because I needed to challenge myself. Just kidding, it was really because I wanted to play again but my right arm was sore from the day before.

How to hide things in books.

Currently Watching

After blazing through Westworld last month, we started watching The Crown. It’s good, but I’m often having Nolan pause it so I can ask questions or Google something. My royalty knowledge is lacking.

Currently Annoyed By

I’m still hating the pop-ups on sites that ask for our email to “Never miss a {fill in the blank} post again!” or “Are we friends yet?” If I want to sign up, I will, but making me click on “x” every time I visit your home page (or worse, every page on your site!) makes me very annoyed and crabby.

Instagram giveaways that require you to do a “loop”, meaning you have to like and follow a bunch of other accounts in order to be entered in the giveaway. It’s a bogus (and annoying) way people inflate their Instagram follower volume. Please stop. I like Instagram and discovering new people to follow (like all the cute puppies), but I’d never host or participate in an ingenious giveaway just to boost my following.
