On the 4th of July, I ran the 2022 Firecracker 4-Mile Race in Laurel Hill County Park in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. After the Bridge Run, it was my 2nd official race in South Carolina since moving here a few months back.
The Course
The 2022 Firecracker 4-Mile race course was (surprise!) a trail run! Starting and finishing in a grassy (very uneven) field. Good news- it was 95% shaded. Bad news- there was no breeze. The weather was stifling. There were two loops and as I was turning the corner to start my second loop I got lapped by the 1st place males.
The heat and humidity really took a beating on me. Nolan came to watch and said everyone finishing looked awful. I was toast, but made sure to stop my watch. š
The Race Organization + After “Party”
It was a relatively cheap race and I loved that you could opt for no t-shirt. The “after party” included beers and hot dogs. I first had to concentrate on not being sick. Being a 4th of July party, the race winners received fireworks. Overall, it was a good race and a great way to end the holiday weekend!
Full or Half Marathon in Every State
The race clearly didn’t count toward my running a half (or full) in every state. After hitting hitting Missouri, Arizona and Wisconsin so close together this year, I feel like I’ve neglected this goal. That said, I am registered for 2 more races in 2022 and 1 in 2023.
